The Cichlid Factory: Our Easy Recipe That Works! By Matt Pedersen, 4th Edition, Copyright © 1999

Cyphotilapia - Frontosa. From Lake Tanganyika. Extremely large, deep water piscivorous (fish eaters). They are polygamous mouthbrooders. They are very peaceful fish, and will not bother anything they can't swallow. Because of their large size, adults should not be kept in anything less than 100 gallons.

Cyprichromis - One of the few Tanganyikan genera known as "Sardine Cichlids". Cyprichromis are one of the more delicate African Cichlids. They are very small, peaceful Cichlids, which feed on plankton in nature. They do not do well at all when kept alone. Ideally, they should be kept in a species tank with a minimum size of 55 gallons. They are polygamous mouthbrooders.

Cyrtocara - Lake Malawi. This genus is home to the former "Haplochromis moorii", a fish which is known for it's large cephalic hump, blue coloring, and impressive adult size. Cyrtocara, are peaceful despite their large size, which demands that they be kept in tanks 100 gallons +. They are polygamous mouthbrooders. (Formerly Haplochromis)

Dimidiochromis - This genus is resident to Lake Malawi. The fish grow extremely large, yet are relatively peaceful. They are predatory. They are polygamous mouthbrooders. Because of their large size, adults should be kept in tanks 75 gallons and up. D. compressiceps & strigatus are the most popular fish from this genus. (Formerly Haplochromis)

Enantiopus - This is another group of "Goby Cichlids" from Lake Tanganyika, also known as "Flashers". They are larger and more aggressive than most "Goby Cichlids", but are also very sensitive and delicate (especially during shipping). For this reason, they should be kept in tanks no smaller than 75 gallons. They are micro-predators. In nature large groups of males gather together in the shallows, dig pits, and display for passing females. They practice polygamous mouthbrooding.
